I painted Lilys on Arkarra Lagoons after several visits I made to these stunning lagoons, taking photos and sketching the scenery.
Arkarra Lagoons, located in Dundowran Beach, Queensland, is so-named by the local aboriginal tribe, the Butchulla people, meaning “place of many ducks”.
I love the abundance of bush turkeys, magpie geese, and watching the turtles and eels bob around in the water.
The reflections on the water make it a wonderful subject for painting either by day or night. There are often interesting sounds coming from the water and surrounding bushland.
Lilys on Arkarra Lagoons is a highly textural painting that reflects the peace and tranquillity of these wetlands.
